Yellowstone!!! Day one, Part one!

We went on our Spring vacation knowing that Yellowstone would be closed.  Due to budget cuts and such, the opening was pushed back until right before Memorial Day.  We were feeling a bit sad about that, since we were right there at the West Entrance.  We toyed with taking the bikes and riding into the park, but it was going to be cold and windy at times, so we left them home.  We made the best of it and swam every day and found adventures to go on, like the Discovery Center, which was well worth the time we spent there and the Ghost Town.  Well as we were going out one day we overheard the front desk employee marking a map of all the things to see in Yellowstone park. I was intrigued, wondering if they were going to make the 6 hour round trip to the North entrance.  Nope, we were happily informed that the park was opening on Friday!  I was so excited about this!  We were going to keep it a secret and surprise the kids Friday morning, but I was too excited not to share this great news!  So Friday morning we got up and left early, we saw so much that day! We saw a huge grizzly bear across a meadow, we saw tons of bison, elk, big horn sheep. It was an incredible day!

We came across this poor guy who was wandering down the road.He desperately wanted to cross, but big trucks kept coming by and spooking him!

Then we figured out that he was trying to catch up to his herd, who decided to take the main road to their destination.

So we temporarily joined the herd. We followed along behind them and before long they all headed over to the side of the road so we could pass.

They were close enough we could have reached our hands out the windows and touched them!
The park was very quiet, with few vehicles out and about, so when we saw someone pulled over, we usually checked to see what they were looking at!  We came across two vehicles stopped in the middle of the road and kept looking out to the meadow to see what they were seeing.  Soon we noticed they were looking at the cliff on the other side of us.  Up above us were two big horned sheep and they were fighting and butting heads. There was a young female with them too.  It was fun to watch them hop around on the cliff.  It seemed like they were defying gravity!
