Kitties flying out the door

Our little rescue has adopted out 36 kitties since the beginning of March!! And our record of 20 in one month was beat yesterday. 21 of those adoptions happened in April!! For the entire year of 2019, we did 101 adoptions.

Precious moments

Tonight I got in some kitten time. These are 2 of Jade's 3. They are one week old and their eyes are starting to open. Ears are mostly unfolded. They are growing. And they are loud until they snuggle in! I am so in love! I am grateful every day for the opportunity I have to work with so many sweet little spirits. I have to thank my friend Lisa Hoffman for introducing me to this idea years ago, long before I knew I loved cats. I'd have never thought I'd be doing something like this!

Sweet Sisters

Too cute! I've been gushing with emotion tonight about two sister cats, Amber and Sapphire, due to give birth within days of each other. Amber was there to assist and support during Sapphire's birthing. It was beautiful to behold. All 6 kittens are healthy and well. Look at pic 1, the protective arm of Auntie Amber across the babies. So sweet. Fast forward a few hours to pic number two. Wait, what? Yes, Amber has stolen, or maybe just borrowed all the babies. Either she wants to skip birth and feels her family is complete, or she's trying to get her own labor started. Or maybe, just maybe she is giving Sapphire a break? Sisters!!! Either way I am laughing at this cute little growing family. I adore each one already. I am looking foward to seeing how coparenting will work once all the wee ones are here!

Self Care

Thanks to Annalina, I went to my first pound class tonight. I was awkward and attentive trying to recreate their moves, but it was dark, so I did fantastic! ;) It's been 4 years since my battle with Breast Cancer began. It took so much from me, at a time in my life where I had little left to give. But I survived with the love and support of so many of you. However, it really wore me down. I want to start repairing the damage cancer and its treatments caused me, both physically and emotionally. I will fight for those most important to me, but I never truly learned that I am important too. And that makes me sad. I am still here for many good purposes. I have many things left to accomplish in my life. I am worthy. I am unstoppable. Let's all hope I survive tomorrow, because if I don't, well, that would make this a really awkward entry. ;)

I'm Short

The kids had their physicals today and I am finally and officially the shortest one in the house!! Joseph is now 6 feet tall and continues to grow. Annalina is 6' 1.75" and Jacob, well, he is tall.

Snow be gone

We are having some crazy snow right now! It's hard to keep up with and we are running out of snow storage space! I have been very lucky to have neighbors who have pitched in and helped at times. And the kids do their best too. The worst is when the plow does the street and pushes several feet of snow into the driveway. Where are our flying cars, science???

Scared New Rescues

When we first rescue a cat or kitten, they are extremely afraid. They may have been outside on their own for a while. They may have been abused and never felt the love of a human hand. Today, we had an emergency. Cold temps, ice and snow and a pregnant momma with her older litter dumped at an apartment complex. We don't know how far along sweet momma is, but we know her newborns would not make it in this weather. We set the traps and got momma and one of her three kittens. The others were no where to be found, so we left food under the shed they hide under and put a blanket under there too. We will set traps again tomorrow and hope to get the entire family. Tonight's rescues are afraid, and I just want to hug them and tell them life gets better now. But we will give them their space and before long they will understand that they are loved and wanted and will be protected. Just look at them. Mother and daughter look so much alike! And momma is much too little to be on her second pregnancy. =(

Pulling Back The Rug

My daughter, Annalina, was so brave today. She is passionate and wants to make the world a better place. She truly aches for those who feel alone or lost. She spoke to the Principal and then after to a wonderful counselor and she kept talking until she felt heard. I am proud of her for her dedication to her convictions. It takes a lot of strength to do what she did today, all on her own. One day, she will change the world in a huge way. But today she's starting with her high school.

Sweeping it Under the Rug

Last week, the day after our loss anniversary, a teenager at my daughter's school took his life. But there has been no talk about it, the school isn't providing support/counseling for the students, many of whom, like my daughter, are struggling with this loss. It is being ignored as if it didn't happen. I understand one suicide in this age group can lead to more, but the students all know, they are discussing it. There has to be a solution that will support survivors without glorifying suicide. I feel angry as my daughter cries as she talks about all who are struggling but not getting help. Are they right to keep it quiet? It just feels so wrong.

Crazy Timing!

Today seemed to be harder on my kids than any other since that first day of loss. I think they protected me from their feelings or maybe they did not know how to express what they truly felt before. This year, especially since Camp Kita, the survivors camp they attended this summer, we have talked in depth about our feelings. They have expressed anger, and sadness, and even at times guilt. Well, on today of all days, I got an email that registration for this summer at Camp Kita is open! I've completed registration and we have dates. Good news to get on such a challenging day! See you soon Maine!! Oh, and the check engine light came on today. Ya win some, ya lose some!! =) <3 hr="">

Five Years Gone

Today is my least favorite day of the year. The day my heart shattered into a million little pieces. The day my family changed forever. I want to sleep the day away and not think of Richard. Not remember the shock, the tears, the devastation my family experienced. But I just can't. So I have a full day ahead of me. And I am grateful for the strength I have found over the years. The knowledge that I am a child of God and he truly loves me. The beautiful relationships I have with each of my children. That each of us has survived and thrived after such a tragedy. How can it be five years? It seems like only yesterday. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him. I miss him and wish he was here, growing old with me.

Loving words, deaf ears

Five years ago today I had no idea I was spending my last day on earth with this man. We had a very loving relationship, I told him I loved him all the time. At some point he stopped hearing. My heart still aches. Ladies, hug your husbands.
